Wherever the art of Medicine is loved, there is also a love of Humanity”
- Hippocrates
Established by Clinical Science students for Clinical Science students.
Established in 2016, the Clinical Science Society [CLINSCISOC] was founded by the inaugural cohort of the Bachelor of Clinical Science [BClinSc]. The degree was introduced as the first undergraduate degree of the Faculty of Medicine and Health at Macquarie University. The department would eventually expand to become the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences [FMHHS], whilst the Bachelor of Clinical Science would grow in popularity due to its nature as a unique, accelerated course with a professional, practical approach. From our humble beginnings as a close-knit cohort of 25 students in 2016 to our current student intake averaging 250 each year, we have grown together as a clinical community. Our vision as a society is to continue the tradition of this close-knit community culture with our core values as the cornerstone.
We envision a clinical science community connected by a culture of core values: academic excellence, charitable community outreach and professional networking.
Here at the Society, we take our services for members to heart. We aim to provide opportunities to all our members in accordance with our core values.
- Academic Excellence -
- Charitable Community Outreach -
- Professional Networking -
We value academic excellence because it goes hand in hand with dedication, intellectual integrity and career success. We aspire to provide our members opportunities to study effectively in groups and support each other as unique individual learners. Such support extends to any subjects undertaken within the Bachelor of Clinical Science and the GAMSAT [Graduate Medical School Admissions Test]. We take great pride in our ability to provide many of these academic opportunities free of charge to our members. We are open to expanding these opportunities to accomodate current members and new ideas from our clinical community.
We value charitable community outreach because kindness, compassion and humanity are deeply ingrained qualities which are prioritised in the healthcare field. We are so privileged with the opportunities afforded to us by our education and the least we can do is give back to the community who has supported us. We host charitable events each year such us our Birthing Kit Assembly initiative and Legacy (A Ride to Conquer Motor Neuron Disease). We hope to raise more funds and contribute more to the community with the help of incoming members. We greatly appreciate any new ideas these bright minds bring to the table for our charitable community outreach projects.
We value professional networking because it affords us the opportunity to socialise with our peers, communicate with staff and engage with the wider healthcare community. It is important to us, as a society, that we provide students the platform to build fruitful friendships in their undergraduate years. It is critical that we do not trivialise social activities in the pursuit of academic excellence, as ultimately our university peers at present are the professionals of the future. Hence, we deem all social events to be avenues of professional networking and encourage all members to submit their ideas for these events in our regular CLINSCISOC surveys.
Signing up for a Clinical Science Society membership is open to all students of Macquarie University and members of the Australian public under our ‘Why Join?’ section.
